ABBA won Music Week’s Catalogue Marketing Campaign Award
Great news! The ‘ABBA Gold’ Campaign won Music Week’s Catalogue Marketing Campaign Award at this year’s ceremony. Over the last year, Yes Please have directed and produced videos for every track on ‘ABBA Gold’. The videos formed a major part of the campaign, launching #DuetWithABBA across all social platforms, which encouraged fans to get involved. Other events in the campaign included collaborations between Elton John and ABBA on TikTok, and a mass karaoke event in London.
Huge thanks to the teams at Universal and Polar Music for getting us involved and for giving us the opportunity to work on such an amazing campaign.
It’s always difficult to choose favourites, but four of the videos that we particularly enjoyed working on are:
WATERLOO
‘Waterloo’ is synonymous with ABBA’s win at Eurovision in 1974, and our visual was released on the 48th anniversary of this performance. Our lyric video celebrates the iconic outfits they wore along with ABBA’s sense of fun and personality.
The holographic badges from the jackets, the heart shaped jewellery, the bright blue satin and the star-shaped guitar are all referenced, along with the required amount of glitter and sparkle. The typeface references the font from the single of ‘Waterloo’, tying the visual to the original release.

SOS
This lyric video features a bespoke alphabet that we created to reference the original 7” sleeve artwork – an ‘Easter-egg’ for super fans to discover. The bold colours were carried on through our retro inspired graphics to create a visual that evokes the decade of Spangles, space-hoppers and flared trousers.

TAKE A CHANCE ON ME
Another visual trip back to the ‘70s through the colours and design that epitomise the decade. Our inspiration included the Verner Panton curve design – familiar for gracing many ‘70s homes in the form of curtains and wallpaper. Editing on beat, along with slick motion graphics ensured this modern take on nostalgia was enjoyed by fans old and new.

VOULEZ-VOUS
Inspired by the track’s heavy synths and call-to-dance lyrics, our celebration of this disco hit featured illuminated neon script, pulsing coloured lights and beat-reactive animations. As we love to find ways to be inspired by the original release, these geometric animations reference the ‘lightsaber’ on the original sleeve art of ‘Voulez-Vous’. Our creative editing enhanced the rhythm of the track, presenting this party anthem in a fresh and contemporary way.
