TAKE A CHANCE ON ME – LYRIC VIDEO
Our lyric video for ABBA’s 1978 hit ‘take A Chance On Me’ takes a trip back through time with the colours and design that epitomise the 70’s.
WATERLOO – LYRIC VIDEO
‘Waterloo’ is synonymous with ABBA’s win at Eurovision in 1974, and this visual was released on the 48th anniversary of this performance. This visual celebrates the iconic outfits they wore along with ABBA’s sense of fun and personality.
The holographic badges from the jackets, the heart shaped jewellery, the bright blue satin and the star-shaped guitar are all referenced, along with sparkles and glows. The typeface references the font from the single of ‘Waterloo’, tying the visual to the original release.
VOULEZ-VOUS – LYRIC VIDEO
This lyric video for ‘Voulez-Vous’ is inspired by the track’s heavy synths and call-to-dance lyrics. To celebrate this 1979 disco hit we featured illuminated neon script, pulsing coloured lights and beat-reactive animations. The video arrives as anticipation builds for the London opening of the concert experience ABBA Voyage at the ABBA Arena opening on May 27.
SOS – LYRIC VIDEO
Going full on 70’s with our design we created a bespoke alphabet based on one of their original 7″ single sleeves. Lasse Hallström’s experimental promo video for the track inspired the kaleidoscopic effects. And we combined this footage with our bold illustrations to create a fresh new visual for this much loved track.
GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! (A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT) – LYRIC VIDEO
Our visual for ABBA’s epic dancefloor filler ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’ gives the original promo video a new lease of life. Our visual is bold, bright and cut to emphasise the synths and driving beat.
KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU – LYRIC VIDEO
For ABBA’s mega-hit ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ we re-edited the original promo video. This footage was presented in a variety of photographic contact sheets, the clean lines suiting the minimal feel of the original video.
CHIQUITITA – LYRIC VIDEO
Our lyric video for ABBA’s hit single ‘Chiquitita’ from 1979 features period footage of the band, alongside graphical geometry which echoes the cover artwork of the album ‘Voulez-Vous’. The colour palette and animation matches the pace of the track with lasers of light highlighting the piano parts. A fresh new visual to help bring this classic track to a new generation of fans.
In 1976 ABBA released ‘Dancing Queen’, and our lyric video for the track transports us straight back to that 70s dance floor.
THE NAME OF THE GAME
With the original promo video for ‘The Name Of The Game’ having been shot at Björn and Agnetha’s home, we complimented the intimate feel of the footage by entering the world of super 8 home video. We also introduced ‘View-Master’ style slides to transport the original fans straight back to the 70s!
FERNANDO – LYRIC VIDEO
Our visual for ABBA’s ‘Fernando’ is inspired by the song’s narrative about the Mexican revolution and the embroidered outfits worn by ABBA in the original video. The rich, decorative artwork is a fitting accompaniment to ABBA’s most successful single.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY – LYRIC VIDEO
Money, Money, Money! Our visual for ABBA’s 1976 hit sets out to enhance the song’s lyrics and the lavish visuals in the original promo video. The diamond patterns have an Art Deco feel, echoing the outfits ABBA are wearing in the video.
LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME – LYRIC VIDEO
Our video for ABBA’s electro-disco sensation ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’. Released in 1980, our visual pays homage to early 80’s design and the synth-pop aesthetic.
THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC – LYRIC VIDEO
Our video for ABBA’s ‘Thank You For The Music’ takes the form of a fans scrapbook come to life. Referencing the many highlights from ABBA’s career and crammed with content that fans will enjoy discovering.
MAMMA MIA – LYRIC VIDEO
Released in 1975, ABBA’s outfits in the original video for ‘Mamma Mia’ are the epitomy of glam rock, so we honour this vibe in our lyric video. Animal print, platform boots and sparkling silver textures = an ABBA classic!
THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL – LYRIC VIDEO
The visual for ABBA’s poignant ballad ‘The Winner Takes It All’ takes inspiration from a range of sources, such as the pink, white and blue flowers in the original video and the typeface from the original 7”.
This lyric video incorporates these elements with the original promo video. Tinting the footage to create a harmonious colour palette and refreshing the imagery for a contemporary audience.
SUPER TROUPER – LYRIC VIDEO
This visual for ‘Super Trouper’ references the vivid stage lights in the original promo video and creates the motif of colourful concert lights that link all the scenes in the video together. We also created the bespoke font of glowing lights for this project.
I HAVE A DREAM – LYRIC VIDEO
ABBA did not create a video for ‘I Have A Dream’ at the time of its release. So 44 years later we have created the official lyric video.
The emotional weight of the song has its roots in musical-theatre, and in reference to this, the lights and staging gives this visual an epic feel.
ONE OF US – LYRIC VIDEO
For ABBA’s heartbreak song ‘One Of Us’, we transport the viewer back to 1981!
Displaying the original promo video in a variety of retro TV screens, with channel changes, colour bars and distortion gives the footage a new spin.
The background of several of the scenes also feature the actual wallpaper we see Agnetha papering the apartment with, along with the plant she places on the window sill – fun Easter eggs for especially observant fans.
Throughout 2022 and 2023, Yes Please Productions created and produced new visuals for every track on ABBA’s 1992 compilation album ‘ABBA Gold’ to celebrate its 30th Anniversary. Supporting ABBA’s ground breaking live show ‘Voyage’, we were delighted to work with Universal Music, along with ABBA’s management team, to create fresh interpretations of their biggest hits.
