My Secret World: The Story of Sarah Records
THE DOCUMENTARY 2014
‘My Secret World: The Story of Sarah Records’ is a documentary by Lucy Dawkins and Tom Readdy about the fiercely independent Bristol label that ran from 1987 to 1995. Made over several years on a very limited, self-funded budget, the film reflects the same DIY spirit as the label itself, and is told by the label’s founders Clare Wadd and Matt Haynes, alongside the people who were there and the music they made.
The Royal Television Society recognised it with the Best Film award at the RTS West of England Awards, and it was also named one of Dazed & Confused’s best music documentaries of 2015. It offers a rare, first-hand account of how Sarah Records worked and why it continues to be remembered.
